About the event

Last year, we had the honor of working with Mr. Cuauhtemoc Villa on his Sauvie Island Farm where we were gifted his blend of Bokashi! 🤯

This year, we have BIG NEWS! We have partnered with Mr. Villa to provide an upcoming opportunity for You to learn to make your own Bokashi Bucket LIVE on ZOOM from the comfort of your own home!

But what is Bokashi you ask?

It "is a process that converts food waste and similar organic matter into a soil amendment which adds nutrients and improves soil texture. It differs from traditional composting methods in several respects. The most important are: The input matter is fermented by specialist bacteria, not decomposed." [Wikipedia]

"Bokashi is a mixture of microorganisms that is known as a Bokashi ‘bran’... Bokashi is odorless and pest free because it works with an airtight anaerobic process of fermentation. The Bokashi bucket must be completely airtight with a faucet at the bottom so you can drain out the ‘tea’. Bokashi ‘tea’ is a nutrient rich liquid that forms at the bottom of the Bokashi bucket as a result of the heat created by the composting process. [www.sustainableamerica.org]

*Where normal composting methods can take anywhere from 4-6+ months, Mr. Villa's method, all in all, will take approximately 1 month.

Gather your supplies and join the demonstration LIVE on ZOOM:

Saturday, May 29th at 1:00 - 2:30 PM PST
